| Self-Introduction:
Aloha! I’m Sara Thomas and I am a team member for the Atherton YMCA’s Alternative Spring Break Program. I am currently a junior at the University of Hawai’i studying Meteorology. I am always up for a challenge, and love the outdoors. Some of my favorite activities include hiking, snorkeling, and kayaking.
This trip is an amazing opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and into another country.

I have a great desire to travel and see the world and all it’s people, but have very limited international experience, extending only to Canada and Mexico. I am very excited to be
a part of a program that gives me the opportunity to interact with people of various cultures, be a part of a team with a mission to help others, be humbled by less fortunate areas, and see the world. Having been very involved with community service projects in high school, I see this trip as a way to continue contributing to my community, this time on a global level.During our time in Vietnam we are going to help build something for the community, like a school or community center. We will also get the chance to visit an orphanage and spend time with kids who lack mentoring figures in their lives. It will be challenging for me to see the poverty, but believe that product of my team’s efforts will make it all worth the struggle. I know that my team will change the lives of those we come across in Vietnam. What’s a better way to spend spring break than change the world?!
Please help me make it across the globe to Vietnam! Any donation will be greatly appreciated and go towards a great cause.
