Self-Introduction:

Dear friends,

Aloha from Hawaii! As I’m sure you all can imagine, life here on the island of Oahu is pretty sweet. The weather is wonderfully warm; the waters are abundant, inviting and a spectacularly calming array of the clear blues. The people are friendly, and given the locale, the cultural diversity is ever changing beyond anything that I could have ever imagined.

Within such a short time, I am learning so much; life here is probably the best that I’ve ever experienced. However, the world does not end in Hawaii, and there is work yet left to be done. With nearly a year of new experiences and surroundings under my belt, it’s time to branch out yet again.

I’m currently in my third year majoring in Biology and minoring in English at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. After graduating, I hope to attend Medical School either here in Hawaii or wherever my journey takes me. I would really like to travel around the world. I want to learn different languages, experience different cultures, see life through different perspectives, and become a better person for it.

I am privileged enough to have been chosen to be one of eleven local students participating in the Alternative Spring Break Program. Committed to building cultural-bridges, assisting those in need, and of course, spreading a little ‘Aloha’, we will forgo the usual hedonistic rituals associated with college ‘Spring Break’ and head for to the good folks of Viet Nam for some good ol’fashioned service-work. As most of you know, that’s the sort of thing for which I live.

As always, I appreciate your continued encouragement and support.

Sincerely,

Leo [L., Lenny, Lenn, Leonard]
